Midway Chapel is Dedicated: April 14, 2002

The Midway Airport Chapel was dedicated at a 4:00 p.m. Vespers Service on Sunday, April 14. Francis Cardinal George, O.M.I., Archbishop of Chicago, lead the invitation to prayer, offered a homily and a prayer of blessing for airport workers. Erin O'Donnell, Deputy Commissioner of Midway Airport, read from Exodus 40:34-48. Charles Barnes, S.J., Assistant Chaplain at OHare, served as leader of song and lead the congregation in the psalm response. Following the Cardinal's homily, Prayers of Blessing were offered by various representatives of the Interfaith Community. Go to Audio and Visuals of this event.

The Chapel will be administered by the Interfaith Airport Chapels of Chicago, formerly the O'Hare Interfaith Chapel Corporation. Father Michael Zaniolo, O'Hare's full-time Catholic Chaplain, will serve as administrator for both O'Hare and Midway Chapels, and Mrs. Susan Schneider will serve as both office manager and fundraiser for both locations.

Father George McKenna, Midway's founding chaplain, and Father Michael Wanda, will serve as part-time associate chaplains for the Catholic Chaplaincy at Midway. Masses will be celebrated at 3:45 p.m. Saturdays and 8:30 a.m. Sundays.

The Muslim Chaplaincy at Midway will be led by Mr. Qazi M. Biabani, Imam and Khateeb. The Protestant Chaplaincy at Midway will be led by Rev. Hutz Hertzberg, Evangelical Free Church in America, the Great Lakes District. At the present time, special services and pastoral care will be available by request.

Our congratulations to our colleagues in ministry at Midway Airport Chapel, and to all those, especially Fr. George McKenna, who have worked tirelessly to make the new Midway Chapel a reality.
